Maurice Trindall, a former representative for the Under-18s NSW Blues and a junior player for the Penrith Panthers, has been sentenced to over a year in prison after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
As reported by news.com.au, Trindall entered a guilty plea for charges of reckless grievous bodily harm and reckless wounding. He received a sentence of two years and four months, with a non-parole period set at 14 months, during his hearing at Parramatta District Court.
The charges stemmed from an incident outside the Bidwill Hotel in Sydney's western suburbs, where he and two associates severely assaulted a man, causing him multiple brain injuries, and also attacked an innocent woman by striking her in the face with glass during the brawl.
Trindall is expected to be released on December 1 of this year, considering the time he has already served in custody.
While he never had the opportunity to play in the NRL, Trindall was considered a promising talent as a dummy-half while progressing through the ranks of the Penrith Panthers, sharing the field with notable players such as Matt Burton, Stephen Crichton, and Shawn Blore.
In 2018, he earned recognition as the hooker for the NSW Blues in the Under-18s State of Origin match, where the team secured victory against Queensland. This squad included players like Bradman Best, Bronson Xerri, Spencer Leniu, and Stefano Utoikamanu, among others.
