Aussie sporting hero Ethan Lowe has been handed a tough penalty in his legal showdown with the NRL's insurer, Lloyd's of London.

The former NRL star, known for his grit and determination on the field, saw his lawsuit over a career-ending injury dismissed by a Federal Court judge.

Lowe, a seasoned player at 33, took on Lloyd's of London after they deemed him ineligible for a policy covering paralysis.

Despite putting up a good fight in court, Justice Ian Jackman ruled in favor of the insurer and ordered Lowe to foot the bill for legal costs.

The tough tackle that ended Lowe's promising career in 2020, when he was just 29, was a harsh blow for the South Sydney player.

The case hinged on whether Lowe met the strict definition of paralysis under the policy, with Lloyd's of London citing a previous injury in 2016 as a contributing factor.

In the end, it was a tough call for Lowe, whose hopes of scoring a win in court were dashed.

The outcome serves as a reminder of the unforgiving nature of the game, where injuries can sideline even the most seasoned players.

Ethan Lowe may have lost this battle, but his fighting spirit on the field will always be remembered in the annals of Rugby League history.
