The NRLW world has been thrown a curveball as former Dally M Medal champ, Tamika Upton, has dropped a bombshell on the Newcastle Knights.
The star fullback, who has been a powerhouse for the Knights and has a swag of premierships under her belt, has asked for a release to head back to sunny Queensland on compassionate grounds.
If the Knights agree to let her go, Upton will be waving goodbye to the final three years of her contract.
She's been a key player for the Knights for three seasons now, helping them secure back-to-back NRLW titles in 2022 and 2023.
The NRLW scene in Queensland is already buzzing with clubs like the Brisbane Broncos, Gold Coast Titans, and North Queensland Cowboys in the mix.
The Dolphins are still waiting for their shot to join the competition, adding even more drama to the mix.
