Cameron Munster's determination to hold onto his jersey and not give anyone the opportunity to take it was the driving force behind his decision to play despite battling the flu.

The Kangaroos five-eighth knew that if he sat out the game against New Zealand, his former Storm teammate Nicho Hynes could have seized the chance to shine and potentially steal his spot.

Despite being isolated from most of his teammates last week and having only one proper training session, Munster powered through and played a crucial role in Australia's comfortable 36-18 victory at AAMI Park.

However, with eight minutes remaining, he was granted an early mark, allowing Hynes to showcase his skills in the halves and set up a try for Cameron Murray.

Munster, who is set to play his 12th Test for Australia in the Pacific Championships final, understands the importance of loyalty and knows that if the team keeps winning, there will be no reason for the coach, Mal Meninga, to make any changes.

This knowledge fueled Munster's determination to hold onto his position and not give Hynes the chance to snatch his jersey.

"It was always tough being sick, but if I gave the jersey up to Nicho then I probably wouldn't get it back," Munster stated.

His words reflect his commitment to the team and his desire to maintain his role as the team's five-eighth.

Munster's decision to play despite battling the flu demonstrates his dedication and drive to succeed in the sport.
