Flanagan Stays, Family First in Rugby League Game

St George Illawarra Dragons head coach Shane Flanagan has dismissed suggestions that he should consider dropping his son, Kyle Flanagan, from the struggling team's line-up.

The Dragons have faced significant challenges recently, suffering heavy defeats including a loss to the Dolphins and failing to capitalize on a first-half lead against the Cronulla Sharks during a local derby.

Kyle Flanagan, who began the season at five-eighth before transitioning to halfback following Lachlan Ilias's demotion to reserve grade, has had a mixed season.

His recent performances have raised questions about the team's kicking game, particularly in collaboration with his young halves partner, Lyhkan King-Togia.

Currently positioned outside the top eight, the Dragons need a strong second half of the season to have any hope of reaching the finals.

However, despite the team's struggles, Coach Flanagan has defended his son's position, stating, "To say Kyle is under pressure is ridiculous." His comments reflect a belief that the challenges facing the Dragons are not solely attributed to his son's performance on the field.
