Former NRL and Warrington Wolves forward Lachlan Fitzgibbon has announced his return to a new club for the 2026 season, going back to his origins after being released by the Super League team at the conclusion of the previous season.
During his two-year tenure with Warrington, Fitzgibbon made 41 appearances under coach Sam Burgess. However, despite having a year left on his contract, he was let go following a challenging season for the club.
Although this marked the end of his time at the elite level, it did not signify the conclusion of his playing career.
Fitzgibbon has signed with his junior club, South Newcastle Lions, for the upcoming 2026 Newcastle Rugby League season.
The seasoned back-rower shared that rejoining Souths was a straightforward choice, motivated by his wish to conclude his career at the place it all began.
"I wanted to come to Souths," Fitzgibbon told the Newcastle Herald.
"My home club, my junior club, I'm excited to run out for them."
