Field goal failure fuels Bennett's NRL fury

‘Should have kicked the field goal’: Wayne Bennett rages amid NRL heartbreak

LeagueNews.co | Jess Malloy

Wayne Bennett, the coach of the Dolphins, was absolutely livid after a heartbreaking loss to the Panthers in a nail-biter of a match.

The Dolphins fell short with a score of 28-26 in golden point and Bennett was left wondering why they didn't just "kick the field goal" earlier on.

The match started off with the Panthers scoring in the third minute, but the Dolphins fought back and managed to take the lead at halftime with a score of 18-12.

It looked like the Dolphins had the game in the bag with an early try and a penalty goal extending their lead to 26-12 in the 55th minute.

The Panthers, missing their Origin stars, seemed destined for a second consecutive home loss.

However, the return of Nathan Cleary proved to be the turning point as the Panthers mounted a comeback and tied the game at 26-all by the end of regular time.

Cleary then sealed the deal in golden point with a flawless 43m field goal, securing the win for the Panthers in his first match back since 10.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Dolphins and Wayne Bennett, who felt that a different strategy could have led to a different outcome.

The game was a rollercoaster of emotions, with plenty of twists and turns that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.

It's a tough loss to swallow, but Bennett and the Dolphins will no doubt bounce back stronger in their next outing.
