Jeff Fenech, the renowned Australian boxing legend, has shifted his stance on NRL players after his daughter Kayla announced her pregnancy with Newcastle Knights center Bradman Best.
Previously, Fenech vowed he would never let his daughters date an NRL player, but he is now excited about becoming a grandfather.
Kayla shared the news on social media, stating: "Baby Best due January 2026! We can't wait." Reflecting on this joyful moment, Fenech expressed his pride in both Kayla and Bradman, stating, "They are so happy.
And I'm so proud of both of them.
Whether it's a boy or a girl, the baby is going to have some great genes.
And they'll be great parents.
Bradman is a great fella who will make a great dad."
Fenech's perspective on football players has changed, especially due to Bradman's character.
He explained, "I'd always warned my girls about going out with league players...
They're young and they love going out and having a good time." However, he has come to appreciate Bradman for his decency and the way he treats Kayla.
When visiting Newcastle, Fenech noted, "Bradman invited us in and said, 'Welcome to the house'.
Not his house, their house.
He's a great young man."
Despite his initial anger when Kayla revealed she was dating an NRL player, Fenech now acknowledges Bradman's efforts to win him over.
He recounted, "When she rang and told me, I went off the deep end...
I gave her a roasting.
She kept trying to say 'Dad, he's a lovely guy'...
Kayla was telling me every day how nice he was.
Bradman knew I was angry, but he told Kayla 'I'll prove your dad wrong', and he has."
Overall, Fenech is embracing this new chapter in his family's life with enthusiasm and pride, viewing Bradman as a promising partner for his daughter.
