NRL star Cooper Johns has left his old coach Craig Bellamy in the dust with a cheeky wardrobe choice at the Dally M Awards.

The son of the legendary Matty Johns took a hilarious swipe at Bellamy by donning the infamous "Beetlejuice" jacket that the Melbourne Storm coach wore to the awards last year.

Johns, who spent some time under Bellamy's tutelage at the Storm, pulled off the double-breasted jacket and matching black bow tie with impeccable precision, much to the delight of social media and onlookers alike.

Joel Parkinson, a former professional surfer, even took to Instagram to praise Johns' style, calling him "sharp beetle juice."

The Johns family continues to reign as the kings of comedy in rugby league, with Cooper's wardrobe choice at the Dally Ms only adding to their legendary status.

Fans couldn't get enough of the banter, with one even declaring, "I'm dead" in response to Johns' ribbing of his former mentor.

It looks like Cooper Johns has scored a try off the field with this wardrobe stunt, leaving Bellamy eating his dust on the fashion front.
