A former rugby league player, recently released from prison for attempting to smuggle cocaine, has avoided returning to jail for drug offences from a decade ago.
John Tobin, 66, the ex-captain of the Sydney Roosters, left the Brisbane Supreme Court on Wednesday after admitting to multiple drug offences committed in 2014.
Having played 125 games for the Roosters during the 1980s, Tobin appeared in court following his release on parole from a NSW prison last June after serving more than eight years for his involvement in attempts to import 1.4 tonnes of cocaine into Australia.
"Desperate men do desperate things," Tobin told AAP in an interview late last year.
Tobin pleaded guilty on Wednesday to nine charges, including drug supply and possession of a substance equivalent to 134 grams of cocaine.
