A surprising name has emerged for a potential return to the England national team ahead of the 2025 Ashes Series against Australia this November. A former NRL centre, Kallum Watkins, is reportedly in the running to represent England for the first time in three years.

England coach Shaun Wane discussed Watkins' prospects during an interview with All Out Rugby League, confirming his inclusion in the team mix. Once a centre for the Gold Coast Titans, Watkins has now transitioned to playing in the forwards and has enjoyed an impressive 2025 season in the Super League, especially under coach Brad Arthur. This season marks his return to the Leeds Rhinos after spending six years with the Salford Red Devils.

"Kallum Watkins is in the squad," Wane stated. "He's played well, he's in good form, and he's an international player. He's in the 40-man squad and training with us."

At 34 years old and nearing the end of his career, Watkins has experience playing in Australia, where he spent two seasons with the Gold Coast Titans from 2019 to 2020. However, his time in the NRL fell short of expectations, as he was only able to participate in eight matches without scoring a try.
