Twelve months after being one of nine players farewelled by the St George Illawarra Dragons at the end of the 2024 season, halfback Jesse Marschke has decided to hang up the boots on his playing career.
Most recently playing in the NSW Cup competition with the North Sydney Bears-a club where he spent several years-Marschke featured in six first-grade matches for the Dragons during the 2024 season but was unable to secure an extension with the club following a one-year stint.
Being the brother of former Sydney Roosters player Ben Marschke, Jesse's career with the Dragons was notably affected by a hamstring injury that sidelined him for much of the season.
Nevertheless, he retires with an impressive record, having played 99 NSW Cup matches and scoring 27 tries, with 63 of those appearances for the Bears. Additionally, he had spells with both the Newtown Jets and Canterbury Bulldogs.
"Thank you Jesse! A big farewell to the captain, the leader, the mate, and a great Bear, as Jesse Marschke has decided to retire from the NSW Cup and NRL level of footy. Forever a Bear," stated the North Sydney Bears in a statement.
