Michael Ennis, the head coach of St George Illawarra Dragons, has reportedly been connected to the head coaching position at Hull KR.
This unexpected link comes after Hull KR recently parted ways with Willie Peters, who is set to become the inaugural coach of the PNG Chiefs.
Peters will take on this new role in 2028, marking his first opportunity in NRL coaching, as he prepares the team in the lead-up to their inclusion in the league.
Hull KR is looking for a new coach by the conclusion of this season, while Peters will be occupied with establishing the Chiefs throughout 2027.
The Chiefs will begin signing players starting November 1 of this year, paving the way for their future.
As reported by Rugbyleaguehub, Ennis stands as a potential candidate to take the reins at Hull KR, which has enjoyed significant success under Peters' leadership.
Peters has shaped the club into a formidable force, and Ennis' first head coaching assignment might be to sustain that success.
This opportunity arises at a pivotal moment for Ennis, who is also being considered for head coaching roles in the NRL.
Currently serving as an assistant at St George Illawarra, and having worked previously with Anthony Seibold at the Manly Sea Eagles, he is viewed as a promising future coach.
Both of his former clubs are currently assessing their coaching needs.
Manly, having recently dismissed Seibold, may look at Ennis among several candidates to take over, with Kieran Foran presently serving as interim coach.
