Eels weigh options; Galvin's gone to greener pastures

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Parramatta Eels head coach Jason Ryles disclosed that the Eels engaged in "strong conversations" with Lachlan Galvin before he ultimately decided to sign with the Canterbury Bulldogs.

Reports from zerotackle.com indicate that both the Eels and Bulldogs pursued Galvin after he announced his departure from the Tigers, initially stating it would be at the end of 2026.

However, circumstances shifted, prompting his immediate exit.

Galvin's move leaves the Bulldogs with decisions to make regarding their team selection, especially since a clear role for him is not established.

In contrast, the Eels have a pressing need for a five-eighth, as Dylan Brown is set to leave for the Newcastle Knights at the end of the year, potentially on one of the richest contracts in the league's history.

Ryles mentioned to The Sydney Morning Herald that the Eels dedicated considerable time to the negotiation process with Galvin and his father.

The situation culminated in Galvin personally calling Ryles to communicate his decision.
