The Eels have rallied behind their beleaguered coach Brad Arthur following a disastrous showing in Darwin, where they were dismantled by the Dolphins in a second-half collapse that left fans shaking their heads in disbelief.
Despite calls for Arthur's head, the players have taken responsibility for their poor performance, acknowledging that they let their coach down and vowing to bounce back stronger than ever.
"It was like we were speaking different languages out there, like we were a bunch of strangers wearing the same jersey," remarked seasoned prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard.
"But we're not hitting the panic button just yet.
This was a wake-up call for all of us, a reminder that we need to dig deep and find that fighting spirit within us."
The embarrassing defeat has not gone unnoticed by the team, who have dissected the game footage with a fine-tooth comb to identify their mistakes and plot a course for redemption.
"We've had a good hard look at ourselves and we know where we went wrong," added Campbell-Gillard.
"Now it's time to roll up the sleeves and get back on track.
We owe it to ourselves, to the fans, and to the coach."
