Eels Target Titan Star After Lomax Exit

After the unexpected departure of Zac Lomax from the Parramatta Eels following just one season, the team is looking to strengthen its backline with a notable target in mind.

As reported by the Daily Telegraph, discussions have begun between the Eels and the Gold Coast Titans regarding a potential signing of strike centre Brian Kelly for the 2026 NRL season.

It is understood that negotiations are in progress concerning the financial aspects for a potential early release of Kelly, who is currently under contract until the end of 2026.

The Titans have informed Kelly and his management that he will likely not be re-signed after 2026, which has prompted him to explore opportunities that could allow him to play beyond that season.

Kelly, who has represented the Indigenous All Stars, boasts 190 NRL games and 66 tries with both Manly and the Gold Coast. He is viewed by Parramatta as a valuable, experienced addition at a reasonable cost.

Currently, the Eels' backline options for 2026 include Josh Addo-Carr, Will Penisini, Bailey Simonsson, Sean Russell, Jordan Samrani, and Joash Papalii. They have two roster spots and the salary cap flexibility to accommodate new signings, a situation made possible by Lomax's exit.

Kelly, known for his skills as a dynamic ball-runner, could effectively address one of these vacancies. However, ensuring defensive consistency will be a key focus for the blue-and-golds under their new coach, Jason Ryles.
