In a thrilling match at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, Parramatta Eels ended their five-game losing streak in the NRLW by defeating North Queensland 16-12.

The victory marked their first win of the 2023 season, and it was a hard-fought battle that saw them dig deep to secure the victory.

The Eels' winger, Kim Hunt, played a crucial role in setting up the win, scoring a double that proved to be the difference between the two teams.

However, it was the kicking game of Rachael Pearson that truly made the impact, as her accurate kicks helped the Eels gain an advantage over the Cowboys.

Despite a slow start, with the Eels surrendering possession and field position early on, they managed to hold on and prevent the Cowboys from scoring.

Both China Polata and Zali Fay came close to scoring, but their tries were disallowed.

The Cowboys also had their chance to score when a kick was knocked on over the line.

With only 39% of possession and being constantly pressured in their own half, the Eels finally broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Mahalia Murphy scored the first points of the match.

Hunt, who had struggled to catch high balls earlier in the game, redeemed herself by collecting a perfectly placed cross-field kick from Pearson, extending the Eels' lead to 10-0.

In the 60th minute, the Cowboys managed to get on the scoreboard with a line break from Emma Manzelmann, leading to Kirra Dibb sending Libby Surha over for an untouched try on the left edge.

However, the Eels' defense held strong in the closing stages of the game, preventing the Cowboys from mounting a comeback.

The victory was a significant boost for the Eels, who had been struggling in the NRLW.

It showcased their resilience and ability to overcome challenges, and they will hope to build on this win as they continue their campaign.
