Brian Kelly is set to take Zac Lomax's place in the Parramatta backline after being released by Gold Coast and signing a two-year contract with the Eels.

In recent weeks, there had been speculation linking Kelly with the Eels, and the move was officially announced on Monday.

He is likely to become a starter as Jason Ryles embarks on his second season as coach, following Lomax's departure after just one season of a four-year contract.

Lomax, a representative for NSW, had been rumored to join a breakaway rugby competition, R360, but the postponement of that league left his future uncertain late last year.

On the other hand, Kelly is in line to benefit from Lomax's exit, joining Josh Addo-Carr and Will Penisini as a starting player in the outside backs.

Bailey Simonsson, Jordan Samrani, and Joash Papalii are additional options the Eels are considering as they aim to build on the progress made in 2025.

"We had an opportunity to strengthen the outside backs which was a positional area of need, and Brian certainly fits that need very well for us," stated Eels general manager of football Mark O'Neill.

"Jason and the coaching staff are looking forward to working with Brian, who adds a greater attacking dimension to the game."
