The Parramatta Eels have officially announced a contract extension for second-rower Matt Doorey.
Recent reports suggested that Doorey, previously with the Bulldogs and facing challenges to secure first-grade opportunities in western Sydney, was poised to decline a contract extension to explore free agency.
However, it has been confirmed that this information was inaccurate, as Doorey has re-signed with Parramatta until the conclusion of 2027. This extension is a one-year add-on to his original contract, which was slated to end after the 2026 season.
"Matt has developed into an important member of the team. He has a point of difference in his mobility and leg speed, which makes him very hard to handle when carrying the ball. The coaches have enormous belief in his ability and we're all looking forward to his continued development," remarked Parramatta's general manager of football, Mark O'Neill, in an official statement.
"He's also a proud local junior who understands what it means to represent Parramatta and the community. This signing shows his ongoing commitment to his teammates and the club."
Doorey began his NRL career with the Bulldogs, appearing in 18 games during 2020 and 2021 before transferring to Parramatta. Over three years with the Eels, he has featured in another 31 matches, including 17 in 2025.
He will be vying for a position in the second row at Parramatta, where Jason Ryles is actively working to rebuild the organization from the ground up.
