"Parramatta Eels bruiser, Shaun Lane, has come out swinging against the NRL's latest sin bin trial, labeling it 'a bit silly' and revealing none of the tough nuts on the RLPA's men's advisory group were on board with the pre-season experiment.
The NRL's trial rule stated that players could cop a 15-minute sin bin stint if they were ruled out of the game due to Category 1 concussion symptoms or a failed Category 2 head injury assessment.
This meant a player could be sin binned even after the fact if the officials decided not to penalize a high tackle on the spot.
While the NRL made it clear that this rule was only for the pre-season and wouldn't be rolled out for the 2025 regular season, Lane told Wide World of Sports that the players were not impressed.
It seems highly unlikely that this controversial rule will make its debut in the 2026 season, with players standing firmly against it.
"We were given a say on this new sin bin rule with the head knock business and we all thought it was a bit of a joke, mate.
But the NRL went ahead and decided to give it a crack anyway during this trial period," Lane revealed to the publication."
