Eels dodge spoon, but face injury doom

The Parramatta Eels managed to avoid the wooden spoon in a thrilling clash with the Wests Tigers, also known as the 'Spoon bowl,' with a commanding 60-26 victory.

The win brought a wave of relief and jubilation to the club, although it came at a cost with key players like Clint Gutherson battling through injuries and fresh worries emerging for Dylan Brown and Will Penisini.

Interim coach Trent Barrett commended the grit and resolve of his players, especially captain Gutherson, who bravely took to the field with three broken ribs and a torn quad.

"Not everyone can see the sacrifices these players make, and if they didn't have a deep connection to the club, they may have chosen not to play.

Gutherson's leadership truly sets an example for the team," Barrett praised.

Gutherson's dedication and guidance were instrumental in guiding the Eels to a crucial victory, ensuring they didn't end up at the bottom of the ladder for the first time since 2018.

Despite the fresh injury setbacks, the Eels showed true fighting spirit and determination on the field.
