The Parramatta Eels have officially opened their new $70 million centre of excellence in Kellyville, described as the largest facility of its kind in rugby league.

The complex spans 11 hectares and features five full-size rugby league fields, a community centre, an indoor training centre, a gym with an infrared sauna, rehabilitation pools, and NRLW-standard match facilities with a spectator capacity of 5,000.

This facility represents a significant upgrade from the Old Saleyards, the Eels' former training base.

CEO Jim Sarantinos shared his reflections on the previous facility, stating, "The gym was spread across three small little demountable modulars, the ice baths were out on the balcony...

but the chairs that were in there were plastic chairs from Bunnings, and it was so tight that players were kind of falling off and stumbling off the chairs." Despite these challenges, Sarantinos noted, "Credit to them, the coaches and the players never used it as an excuse for performance but at some point it does have an impact."

The centre was developed with funding from the NSW and federal governments, Hills Shire Council, and Parramatta Leagues Club.

The Eels undertook extensive research for its design, including visits to Premier League and NFL facilities, to ensure that it meets the high standards needed for both NRL and NRLW training.

Overall, this state-of-the-art facility marks a new chapter for the club, reflecting its aspirations and dedication to supporting players and the wider community.
