The Parramatta Eels have pulled off a stunning backflip on the future of edge forward Ryan Matterson, according to reports from zerotackle.com.
The Greenacre-born 29-year-old, with a contract until 2025 and a player option for 2026, has been the subject of exit rumors from the blue and gold team.
As the Eels gear up for a new season under coach Jason Ryles and aim to climb up from the bottom of the ladder, they were reportedly considering cutting ties with several players, including Matterson.
There were even talks of the Eels willing to chip in on Matterson's salary for a potential move, along with Fijian speedster Maika Sivo.
But in a surprising twist, the club has done a complete backflip on their decision.
The Sydney Morning Herald now reports that Matterson will be staying put in western Sydney for at least 2025, with a chance of extending his stay into 2026.
This unexpected turn of events shows that in the game of Rugby League, nothing is ever certain, and sometimes, the best moves are the ones you least expect.
