Eels and Cowboys: Suspensions loom in league storm

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Parramatta Eels players Will Penisini and Ryley Smith, along with North Queensland Cowboys utility Karl Lawton, are facing potential suspensions following incidents in Sunday's Round 16 games.

Reports from zerotackle.com indicate that both Penisini and Smith were charged for separate dangerous throws during the Eels' victory over the Gold Coast Titans.

Penisini was sin-binned for his tackle on Titans second-rower Beau Fermor in the 79th minute and has received a Grade 2 dangerous throw charge.

Smith, who remained on the field after a dangerous throw on Phillip Sami, is also facing a Grade 2 charge.

Due to his clean record, Smith could receive a two-match suspension with an early guilty plea.

However, Penisini is facing a three-match suspension as this is considered his second offence on his 12-month judicial record.
