The St George Illawarra Dragons are about to receive a significant boost off the field, as the NSW Government has officially unveiled a major redevelopment plan for WIN Stadium in Wollongong.

This project, announced by NSW Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Sport and Tourism Steve Kamper, aims to deliver extensive upgrades to the Dragons' long-term home in Illawarra, along with the construction of a brand-new WIN Arena situated on Wollongong's foreshore.

Described as a once-in-a-generation investment, the redevelopment is set to transform the area into a premier destination for sports, entertainment, and community events.

The plans include a new northern grandstand at WIN Stadium, an expanded and redesigned southern grandstand, and improved player facilities to support the growth of both men's and women's programs.

Additionally, modern upgrades will feature enhanced scoreboards, ribbon boards, lighting, and sound systems, as well as better food, beverage, and merchandise outlets, improved corporate areas, and enhanced accessibility to significantly elevate the fan experience on match days.

Premier Minns emphasized that this initiative would bolster Wollongong's reputation as a prominent events destination. "This is a once-in-a-generation investment in the Illawarra that will transform the region into a world-class destination for sport, entertainment and major events," Minns said.

By nearly doubling the capacity of the adjacent WIN Arena and upgrading WIN Stadium, the precinct aims to host up to 150 events annually, which will yield greater economic and tourism benefits for the region.

Dragons chairman Andrew Lancaster expressed his support for the announcement, calling it a significant advancement for both the club and its supporters.
