In an exciting announcement, the Dragons have revealed Melody Ong from Gwynneville Public School as the winner of their 2023 school learning icon design competition.
This competition saw 13 schools participate, with an impressive number of almost 200 entries.
The purpose of this competition was to encourage schools and students to acknowledge the significance and relevance of the Aboriginal history in the area where their school is located, as well as the history from which they are learning.
To ensure authenticity, the students collaborated with local Aboriginal families, associations, and elders to create their designs.
These 'learning icons' were intended to reflect the rich culture, unique characteristics, and deep respect for country that is inherent in the ancient history of the First Nations people.
Ultimately, the aim was for these icons to complement the school's logo and proudly showcase the school's dedication to acknowledging the importance of the true history.
The competition's sponsors, the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre (UOW), expressed their admiration for the high quality of the entries received.
