Dragons Pursue New Fullback Amid Struggles

In a surprising turn, Clint Gutherson, the current fullback for the Dragons, has opened the door to a potential new role by endorsing the club's pursuit of Cowboys star Scott Drinkwater.

The Dragons find themselves in a slump, struggling to secure their first victory of the season following yet another frustrating defeat in front of their home crowd.

Meanwhile, the upheaval continues for the Dragons as Maroons powerhouse Jaydn Su'A has opted for a change, signing a three-year deal with the Parramatta Eels, effective from 2027. To compound matters, the club's upcoming fixtures include tough matches against the Rabbitohs and the Sydney Roosters on ANZAC Day.

Drinkwater has been given the green light to explore offers from other clubs, and the Dragons are stepping up as the leading contender for his signature.

It's no secret that the Dragons are on the lookout for a new fullback, particularly after failing to secure Trai Fuller before shifting their focus onto Drinkwater.

Interestingly, the former Eel seems unfazed by the club's intentions to acquire a new fullback and has expressed admiration for the Townsville talent.

"100 per cent. He's a high-quality player, and you need those types of players," Gutherson shared with the Sydney Morning Herald.

"I'm not against any of that, and I'm sure the club is doing everything they can to bring someone like that to the club…

"I'm all for it, things like this don't bother me. That's the club, that's what they're doing, they're making the squad and the team better. If that's for a fullback, then I'm all for it. I've always said in my whole career, I'll play wherever and it doesn't bother me.
