The St. George Illawarra Dragons have once again missed out on the finals, but the re-signing of veteran coach Shane Flanagan indicates potential progress for the club. The critical challenge now lies in securing player commitment.

Senior journalist Brent Read has highlighted that gaining player buy-in has proven difficult for the team. During a discussion on NRL 360, he noted emerging signs of unrest within the club, warning that this could lead to issues extending into the 2026 season if not addressed.

"Things aren't going great at the moment," Read stated.

When questioned about the situation, Read recalled recent negative media coverage regarding the Dragons. His co-host, Braith Anasta, expressed his perception of underlying tension within the club, prompting Read to acknowledge the discontent among players.

"I've heard that some players are unhappy, obviously," Read replied. "That's why players are leaving, because they're not happy with how things are going."
