The St George Illawarra Dragons have reportedly opted to halt all contract discussions with their current players following a dismal start to the season.
After suffering their fifth consecutive loss to kick off 2026-nineteen consecutive losses if you include the end of 2025-the Red V are said to have communicated to player managers that all contract talks are on hold.
This news comes as head coach Shane Flanagan faces significant pressure; however, the club is not yet prepared to make a decision regarding his future, despite his previous success with the Cronulla Sharks in 2016.
OPINION: Shane Flanagan has to go, but he isn't the only one
Recently, the club was making headway in contract negotiations with Damien Cook, who has now been informed that his potential deal is off the table.
While Cook is eager to extend his playing career into 2027, his performance on Saturday night fell short.
The rest of the Dragons' lineup is also under scrutiny, with several players including Mathew Feagai, Emre Guler, Blake Lawrie, Nathan Lawson, Luciano Leilua, Hame Sele, Tyrell Sloan, and Christian Tuipulotu approaching the end of their contracts.
Among this group, Tyrell Sloan is the most likely candidate to depart; however, if the Dragons pursue a complete roster overhaul, it could become one of the most significant in the sport's history.
Additionally, Jaydn Su'A has yet to confirm his option for the 2026 season.
