In a disappointing turn of events, recent Dragons recruit Ronald Volkman may see his time in the Red V jersey cut short even before it begins.
According to reports from zerotackle.com, Volkman failed a routine medical exam, casting doubt on his future with the team.
The New Zealand Warriors had officially released Volkman towards the end of 2023, allowing him to sign a one-year deal with the Dragons.
With the team desperately seeking additional depth in the halves, Volkman's arrival was meant to bolster their options.
However, with Jayden Sullivan's departure to the Wests Tigers last year and Talatau Amone's recent deregistration by the NRL, the Dragons are facing a challenging situation.
Volkman was set to compete for the number six jersey against another new recruit, Kyle Flanagan, with the winner expected to partner the experienced Queensland State of Origin player, Ben Hunt, in the halves for Round 1.
However, with News Corp reporting that Volkman's contract won't be registered due to a shoulder issue discovered in scans, Flanagan now has a wide-open opportunity to claim the jersey.
