St George Illawarra Dragons winger David Fale is under scrutiny for a potential suspension after incidentally striking Murray Taulagi with his boot during a high ball attempt. This occurred during a disheartening 32-0 defeat against the North Queensland Cowboys at Kogarah on Saturday evening.

The Dragons, now grappling with their fifth consecutive loss to begin the 2026 season, must also contemplate whether to challenge the judiciary's decision regarding rookie winger Fale.

In the game's second half, Fale's foot made contact with Taulagi's head as he leapt to catch the ball, extending his leg.

This led to a penalty and Fale being placed on report, ultimately resulting in a Grade 2 dangerous contact charge against him.

Since it's his first offence, Fale faces a potential one-game suspension if he pleads guilty early, or two games if he decides to contest the charge and fails.

Fale might consider appealing the decision, referencing a similar event from 2013 when Billy Slater of the Melbourne Storm unintentionally connected with Canterbury Bulldogs' David Klemmer in a comparable scenario, but faced no charges despite being reported.

Additionally, in 2023, North Queensland's Kyle Feldt was involved in a similar situation with Dolphins halfback Sean O'Sullivan and also went uncharged.

Across Saturday's matches, the MRC issued three other charges. North Queensland's Heilum Luki received a Grade 1 dangerous contact charge for a first-half incident involving Toby Couchman, while Dragons forward Hame Sele was charged with a Grade 1 crusher tackle on Taulagi.
