The St George Illawarra Dragons have shown interest in Jake Averillo, who currently faces uncertainty regarding his future with the Dolphins.
Averillo, a versatile player capable of performing as a centre, fullback, wing, or in the halves, has been a key contributor for the Dolphins since joining the team from the Canterbury Bulldogs for the 2024 season.
However, due to recent acquisitions, Averillo's position in Kristian Woolf's squad is at risk, as he may not make the top 17 for the upcoming 2026 season.
This concern arises following the impressive emergence of Trai Fuller, alongside the addition of Selwyn Cobbo, with no other players departing the team.
At present, the Dolphins boast a depth chart that includes Trai Fuller, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Jamayne Isaako-who has been a consistent performer and the team's goal-kicker since the inaugural season-Jack Bostock, Herbie Farnworth, the off-season signing Cobbo, and young talents Tevita Naufahu and LJ Nonu.
With nine players competing for five positions, it has been reported that, despite Averillo being contracted through 2026, interest from English Super League clubs has emerged, suggesting a possible immediate release for him.
A move to England would position Averillo as a standout player in the league overseas, but the prospect of remaining in the NRL with another club has now become a possibility.
