St George Illawarra has shown its support for coach Shane Flanagan by extending his contract through to the end of the 2028 NRL season. Flanagan's previous contract was set to expire at the end of the next season.

The club stated that Flanagan's extension "reaffirms the club's commitment to stability, growth, and a long-term vision for success both on and off the field."

Dragons chief Tim Watsford emphasized Flanagan's importance, saying, "Shane has played a critical role in setting the foundation for where this club is heading." He noted that Flanagan has "re-instilled belief in the playing group, coaches and supporters together with reiterating the privilege of wearing the Red V."

As Flanagan prepares for a derby match against Cronulla, a team he previously led to a historic premiership in 2016, he expressed enthusiasm for the future, especially with the recent recruitment of Anderson from the Sydney Roosters. Flanagan stated, "It's a privilege to continue to coach the Dragons, a club built on such a rich history."
