A celebratory mood enveloped the St George Illawarra Dragons as interim head coach Dean Young expressed that the team's first win of the season was a fantastic reward for weeks of dedicated effort.
The Dragons ended their 295-day losing streak by triumphing over the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium, marking Young's inaugural victory since stepping in for Shane Flanagan.
Having come close to winning multiple times in recent weeks, the Dragons decisively took control of the match from the outset, only facing a challenge during the last 20 minutes as the Broncos attempted a comeback.
"That win's been four weeks in the making," Young reflected after the match, highlighting the joy of celebrating their team song for the first time in almost a year.
"We've done a lot of things right at training and the last four weeks we've played the top four teams in the competition. We've played the Roosters, Newcastle, Penrith and the Warriors."
