Rugby union convert Nathan Lawson has announced that his first-grade debut has secured an automatic contract extension with the St George Illawarra Dragons for the 2026 NRL season.

According to reports from zerotackle.com, Lawson, a Rugby Sevens representative in the Tokyo 2021 and upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games, joined the Dragons following the last Olympic campaign.

Alongside Mark Nawaqanitawase, who has performed well for the Sydney Roosters this year, Lawson transitioned to league.

His strong performance in reserve grade, where he showcased his developing skills, led to an NRL debut on Friday against the Newcastle Knights.

Lawson stepped in to replace the injured Christian Tuipulotu, who was expected to return on Tuesday.

During the match, Lawson impressed by breaking the line, threatening defenders, and gaining 150 metres, displaying the form that earned him his position in the top grade.

In discussing his milestone, Lawson shared, "If I debuted, it triggered a contract for next year," confirming his commitment to the Dragons through the 2026 season.
