The St George Illawarra Dragons have been given a good old-fashioned talking to by the NRL for their contract shenanigans with Ronald Volkman earlier this year.
According to zerotackle.com, the NRL has confirmed that the Dragons have been playing ball with the investigation and have been slapped with a $40,000 fine, although the whole amount has been put on ice for the next 24 months.
"The National Rugby League (NRL) has thrown a penalty flag at the St George Illawarra Dragons for allegedly breaking NRL Rules," the NRL stated in the notice.
The breach notice stems from a bit of a mix-up with player Ronald Volkman earlier in the year, but the NRL is giving the Dragons some credit for playing fair and square with the investigation by the NRL Integrity Unit.
The fine may be looming over the Dragons like a fast approaching opponent on the football field, but they have a bit of breathing room with the suspension hanging over their heads like a Hail Mary pass for the next couple of years.
