The injury crisis for The Dolphins has worsened as key player Kodi Nikorima is confirmed to be sidelined for six weeks due to a hamstring injury.
This setback comes after the team was already coping with the absence of seven members from their Top 30 roster, impacting their chances of making the NRL Finals for the first time since the club's inception.
According to reports from zerotackle.com, Nikorima's return is expected in either Round 23 or 24, which is somewhat encouraging as he will only miss three or four matches, thanks to two bye rounds in the coming weeks.
In the interim, Kurt Donoghoe or Sean O'Sullivan are likely to step in to support Isaiya Katoa in the halves next week.
Another option is centre Jake Averillo, who has prior experience playing in the halves.
Looking ahead, The Dolphins will face the Cronulla Sharks away next Friday, followed by matches against the North Queensland Cowboys, New Zealand Warriors, and Sydney Roosters.
The team will be striving to overcome their injury challenges as they aim for a successful remainder of the season.
