The Dolphins used their 2026 bye periods to explore Tongan, Samoan, Māori, Fijian and Torres Strait Islander cultures within their squad.
Captain Isaiya Katoa said that understanding had strengthened relationships and contributed to the club reaching its first NRL finals series.
"We go that little bit deeper into understanding who each other is," Katoa said.
Those bonds also developed through shared coffees, card games and time together on away trips, he said.
"Now that we've built that and it's at a point where it's really strong, we can start to see that transferring onto the field."
The 22-year-old will lead the Dolphins against the Warriors in New Zealand, urging teammates to embrace the occasion while fulfilling their individual roles.
"the mindset is just to really attack it, enjoy the experience and soak it all in," Katoa said.
Several important players will depart after the season, making a strong finish especially important for the group.
Katoa believes the team's strength comes from selfless effort, including saving tries and supporting teammates beyond their assigned duties.
"It's not the flashy plays, it's not the plays that go on the highlight reels. It's normally around saving tries or turning up for your teammate."
Although the Dolphins want to win the Premiership, Katoa said their attention remains on this weekend's task.
"No one's taking their mind off the job ahead this weekend."
