Recent reports have suggested that Daly Cherry-Evans might be headed to the Sydney Roosters in 2026, but no official agreements have been finalized, leaving room for speculation about other teams that could benefit from his skills.
Despite not currently performing at his peak, Cherry-Evans remains one of the most accomplished halfbacks of the last ten years and could significantly enhance a team vying for a title in 2026.
However, the Dolphins will not be adding him to their roster, as head coach Kristian Woolf has dismissed the possibility, according to The Canberra Times.
"We'd obviously said we would love a player of his calibre, and I love everything about who he is as a bloke and what he has done as a player, but he won't be coming to us," Woolf stated during a news conference on Friday.
"There is no point talking in ifs and buts. I have said before, I think his future is somewhere else."
While it seems the Dolphins could accommodate Cherry-Evans financially for a year, Woolf provided a straightforward explanation for why the former Maroons captain won't be joining the club.
"Isaiya [Katoa] is the halfback," Woolf asserted.
