Dolphins and Saifiti at Contract Impasse

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Contract negotiations between the Dolphins and Origin forward Daniel Saifiti have hit a snag, putting his future beyond this season in limbo.

The Newcastle Knights are currently undergoing a roster overhaul, with players either looking to leave or being granted permission to do so in order to create salary cap space.

Saifiti, who has been given the green light by the Knights to explore other options, has been linked with a move to the Dolphins for some time now.

With a reported salary of $750,000-850,000 until 2026, the NSW Blues representative was on the verge of inking a long-term deal with the Dolphins as they bid farewell to Jesse Bromwich, Euan Aitken, Lachlan Hubner, and Tevita Pangai Junior.

If Saifiti were to join the Dolphins, he would become the third recruit for next season, joining forces with back-rower Kulikefu Finefeuiaki from the Cowboys and winger Junior Tupou from the Wests Tigers.

However, talks are currently at a standstill, leaving Saifiti's next move up in the air.
