Lewis Dodd, a South Sydney recruit who lost his starting spot to Jamie Humphreys, remains determined to prove himself in the NRL.

Coach Wayne Bennett faced a decision between Dodd and Humphreys as Cody Walker's halves partner, ultimately choosing Humphreys due to Dodd's suspension.

Humphreys impressed in the first round, holding out Dodd for round two and kicking the winning field-goal.

Despite South Sydney's strong start to the season, Dodd finds himself in reserve grade after signing a $650,000 contract.

Dodd acknowledged the doubts raised about his readiness for the NRL but expressed confidence in his abilities.

"I wouldn't have come out here if I didn't believe that," he said.

"I know what my strengths are, I just have to be doing them consistently and to a level that is good enough for the NRL.

I'm slowly getting back to where I know I can be and where I know I should be."
