Dearden: The Captain of Queensland's Future?

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Queensland legend Brent Tate, who is also a former Cowboys player, has expressed his belief that Tom Dearden has the potential to become a future captain of the club.

According to a report on zerotackle.com, Dearden recently signed a long-term contract extension with the Cowboys until the end of the 2029 season, rejecting a lucrative offer from the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Despite the length of the contract, Tate, a former NRL player himself, sees Dearden as a natural leader and envisions him taking charge of the team's attacking plays in the halfback position.

"He's got leadership capabilities written all over him," Tate stated on SEN 1170.

This endorsement from a Queensland legend highlights the high expectations placed on the young playmaker's shoulders, with hopes that he will propel the Cowboys to success in the years to come.
