Dearden Clarifies "Nonsense" Reports, Addresses Future
On Monday afternoon, a visibly frustrated Tom Dearden took the opportunity to clarify his future with the North Queensland Cowboys, expressing disappointment over recent speculation regarding his potential departure.
The standout halfback, currently recovering from a second injury this season, has found himself in the spotlight regarding his future, particularly after a News Corp article indicated he might be considering a move to Sydney to join his partner, with various Sydney-based clubs rumored to be keeping an eye on him.
Holding a contract with the Cowboys that runs through the end of the 2029 NRL season, Dearden would need the club's approval to explore any options before November 1, 2027.
During a media briefing in Townsville, he dismissed the allegations, emphasizing the need for privacy concerning his personal life.
"There has been a fair bit of speculation getting around at the moment and a lot of suggestions that I've wanted to move or leave the club," Dearden stated.
"I just want to make sure that [people know] that it's not the case at all."
"I don't feel I should have to get up here and explain myself or explain myself against speculation, because it's just been a whole lot of nonsense."
