Parramatta Eels forward Andrew Davey has made the difficult decision to retire from the National Rugby League (NRL) after receiving advice from medical experts.

According to reports from the official Parramatta Eels website, Davey's retirement comes as a result of concerns about his health.

Davey, who originally hails from Mackay, Queensland, joined the Eels in 2019 and made his NRL debut in 2020.

After his stint with Parramatta, he went on to play for the Manly Sea Eagles and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs before returning to the Eels in the middle of the 2023 season.

The 28-year-old forward sacrificed his home and successful carpentry business in Queensland to pursue his dream of playing in the NRL with Parramatta.

However, it seems that the toll on his body has become too great, prompting him to heed the advice of medical professionals and retire from the sport.

Davey's retirement will undoubtedly be a blow to the Eels, as he has been a valuable asset to the team during his time on the field.

However, his health and well-being must take precedence, and it is commendable that he has taken this step to prioritize his long-term health.

It is unclear what the future holds for Davey after his retirement, but his contributions to the NRL will not be forgotten.

His determination and dedication to the sport are evident in his decision to leave everything behind and pursue his passion.

We wish him all the best in his future endeavors, both on and off the rugby league field.
