'Not a pretty sight': Darren Lockyer spills the beans on the harsh reality behind Kevin Walters' savage dismissal

Broncos icon Darren Lockyer has shed some light on the reasons behind the brutal sacking of Kevin Walters as coach, revealing that it was a less than pleasant experience.

Despite being locked in until the end of 2026, Walters was given the chop last month after a lackluster season that saw the Broncos land in 12th place on the ladder and miss out on the finals.

Following a scathing club review that criticized the team's standards and coaching methods, Walters was shown the door.

Rumor has it that part of the review involved players anonymously filling out a brutal online survey.

Now, the Broncos have turned to Michael Maguire as their new coach, hoping he can lead the talented squad to their first premiership since 2006.

Lockyer revealed to the Courier Mail that the board had no choice but to let Walters go after the team's performance took a nosedive in the latter part of the season, finishing with a disappointing 10 wins and 14 losses.
