Brisbane Broncos legend Darren Lockyer is on the verge of finalizing a significant business deal that could see him owning a rugby league franchise.

The former Maroons star is interested in acquiring the London Broncos, who are poised to compete in the Super League. Currently, the Broncos play in the second tier but are on the brink of promotion to the top tier, with Lockyer potentially leading the charge in their inaugural Super League season.

This week, Lockyer plans to travel to London with his business partner, Grant Wechsel, to attend the Broncos' final home game of the Championship regular season against the Bradford Bulls at Wimbledon.

"I'm happy to confirm we're looking at it," Wechsel stated, as he spoke with The Sydney Morning Herald. "Darren and I have been in business since he retired in 2011, and we identified this as a good opportunity."

He noted that the chance to own a Super League team is indeed compelling.
