Daly Cherry-Evans Joins Roosters Amid Controversy

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Daly Cherry-Evans has faced significant criticism from fans and the media after announcing his departure from the Manly Sea Eagles earlier this year.

Speculation arose that he was leaving for a lucrative contract, particularly following reports of a potential link with the Sydney Roosters in 2026.

Now that the deal with the Roosters seems finalized, the specifics of his contract have come to light, potentially dispelling the "money hungry" accusations against him.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Cherry-Evans will be taking a significant pay cut, with a one-year salary of only $500,000.

This amount is considerably less than the half a million initially speculated and falls short of what the Sea Eagles offered him to stay.

In addition to his salary, the contract includes a new car, likely a BYD, due to their sponsorship of the Roosters.

This pay cut is anticipated to assist the Roosters in re-signing Hugo Savala, who is seen as a long-term companion for Sam Walker in the halves.
