Sebastian Su'a, a rookie for the Dolphins, is inspired in his NRL journey by his father's exceptional work ethic and the guidance of a prominent prop.
Murphy Su'a, Sebastian's father, made history as the first player of Samoan descent to represent New Zealand in Test cricket.
This pioneering left-arm fast bowler opened doors for players like Ross Taylor, who shares a Samoan heritage and went on to achieve great success with the Black Caps.
Sebastian, a tall and agile forward, is set to become a notable figure in the NRL this season.
He admires Daniel Saifiti, a prop for the Dolphins and NSW, who played a significant role in his decision to move from Newcastle to the Dolphins.
Although cricket was initially a possibility for Sebastian, he ultimately chose a different path.
"I played cricket coming through school and for club, but I went down the rugby path. I just like the physicality," he shared.
He noted, "My dad put a lot of pressure on me out of love and wanting me to do well. That pushed me away from cricket a bit, but in hindsight I am grateful for the pressure he put on me."
Sebastian added, "That has instilled good ethics in me in the rugby league space and the work ethic to get where I want to get to."
