'They teach Māori in school': Curran in awe of Indigenous rivals
During Josh Curran's initial participation in the Indigenous All Stars camp, attendees were prompted to position themselves based on their familiarity with their cultural heritage-either on one side of the room if they felt well-educated or the other if their knowledge was limited.
Curran has a personal connection to this topic, as his grandfather belonged to the Stolen Generation. For numerous Indigenous individuals, revisiting historical events can be distressing, resulting in Curran's limited understanding of his ancestral background.
Despite this, since making his All Stars debut in 2020, Curran has emerged as an influential Indigenous figure in the NRL, showcasing a deep commitment to the significance of the annual match against Aotearoa Māori.
As the February 15 game approaches, set to take place at FMG Stadium Waikato in Hamilton, Curran expresses his belief that engaging with Māori culture in New Zealand will serve to uplift and empower the Indigenous players.
