Cronulla Sharks fans slammed for 'pathetic' finals turnout

Cronulla Sharks fans called out for 'pathetic' scenes as AFL crowd puts NRL finals to shame

Cronulla Sharks fans were left red-faced as AFL supporters showed them how it's done at Allianz Stadium on Friday night.

The Sydney Swans packed out the SCG, while the Sharks struggled to fill even half the seats for their NRL finals clash against the Cowboys.

Despite a stellar performance by Braydon Trindall and Nicho Hynes, the Sharks failed to ignite the crowd, with only 19,124 supporters turning up for the do-or-die game.

The lackluster turnout had fans from both codes shaking their heads in disbelief.

Questions have been raised about whether the Sharks should host their NRL finals matches at Shark Park, with its modest 15,000 capacity.

The NRL is eager to see more bums on seats for big games, but even with Allianz Stadium's larger capacity, the Sharks still fell short of filling the stands.

The sight of empty seats at Allianz was a tough pill to swallow for the NRL, with fans scattered throughout the stadium.

The fact that the Sharks couldn't muster enough support for a finals game was a bitter blow for the club and its supporters.
